NEW ZBALANDEB BREAKS HIS
OWN RECORD,

LONDON, 28th March. Mr, V. B. Powell, of Clifton College (an old boy of Christ's), is an outstanding personality in the Uhfton Upilege athletic sports. On the final day of the meeting last week the chief event was the breaking by the New Zealand student of the open long jump recorcl. In 1922 Powell established the srecprd of 20ft lOiin. This year he has broken his own record by a remarkable jump of 21ft 4i-in. In practice he lias cleared 23ft, In. the 120 yards hurdles, open, Powell came first (time, 17 1-Ssec). Ha also won the Challenge Cup for the third time, arid in the quarter mile, open, he game third.
After the contest Mrs. J. E. King, wife of the headmaster, distributed tjie prizes to the various winners.
