LOWER GRADE RESULTS.

Hutt „ 1 Karori .'.»... 3 Huia 1 Wellington ...... S Petone 1 Wakatu 4 "Wesley 2 'Varsity 8

In spite of the uncongenial weather conditions on Saturday, the four senior hockey games were contested to very close finishes, and in each case play was fast and interesting from the bully-off to the final whistle. Considering the heavy rain that had fallen, the grounds were in an unusually satisfactory state, and in mosS instances were firm and reliable, even although a full round of early matches had been played. The one regrettable feature of the afternoon's play was the farcical manner in which Huia and Wellington teams treated their match. The 'game was late in starting, and even then Huia had only seven players on the field, but were Jater reinforced by two other men who apparently were under the impression that time and tide would wait for them, if for none else. The game, although not taken too seriously by the players, was by no means uninteresting to watch, .and Huia, in spite of their shortage of two men, put up a surprisingly good fight, only to be defeated, however, by 5 goals to V . ■

Petone's forceful but individual efforts proved of little avail against the fast-moving Wakatu players, who had little difficulty in winning by 4 goals to 1. Wesley and. 'Varsity, after a hard clean game, divided honours, each team having scored 2 goals. Both clubs' were at their best, and the scores are a fair indication of the respective merits of the two teams. Hutt, playing on the local Recreation Ground, went down to Karori after a fafit, spectacular game, the outstanding feature of which was the good sporting spirit, and the strict regard for the referee's rulings, shown by both teams. Karori's fine condition enabled them to notch 3 goals against the single success of their opponents.

Keen interest was also shown by players in the various junior grade and ladies' games, which were played on the Park.
