An appeal on behalf of the Save th» Children Fund was mad© by Dr. Armstrong Smith, Chief European Organiser, at a lecture given'in the Palace Theatre, and the result was that the sum of £33 was obtained.

The first medal competition for the season held by the members, of the Manawatu Golf Club was won by F. J. Nathan, whose- score (with a. handicap of 20) was 74. The next best cards were those of JVI. H Oram (net score 76), and E. C. Abraham (77). . A cricket match between the Railway Club, Wellington, and the Palmerston North Railway Club resulted in a win for the latter by six wickets and 33 runs The visitors made 180 (Boisley 41, Cunningham 32, Divan 29), to which th« •local team replied with 183 for four wickets (M'Viear retired 59, Lye 39, Pegden not out 35). : . ■ Special harvest thanksgiving services were held in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church on Sunday, when there was an abundant offering of flowers, fruit, and vegetables. The services, both morning and evening, were conducted by the Rev. G. T. Brown.

The holders or the Manson and Barr Cup (a rink from the Palmeiston North Club, skipped by Jones) defeated a challenging rink from the Manawatu Club (Brackenridge skip) by 30 points to 8. This is the seventeenth successive win that Jones's rink has had for this trophy. The Rev. H. T. Peat, the recentlyappointed minister to the Cuba Street Methodist Church, commenced his ministry there on Sunday, when h* conducted the services.

Special harvest thanksgiving services at the Salvation Army Citadel were conducted by Briagied Toomer, field secretary for New Zealand, and were well attended. ' .

Messrs. J. A. Nash, M.P., M. A. Eliott, and S. R. Lancaster have been elected unopposed as the representatives of the Palmerston North Borough on the Mana-■vvatu-Oroua Electric Power Board. For the three vacancies on th« Hospital Board to represent Palmerston North, there are five candidates, namely, Mrs. L. A. Abraham, Messrs. J. A. Nash, M.P., F. Pycroft (the sitting members), F. C. Allerby, and J. W. Body. Sixteen candidates as under have been nominated for the nine seats on th» borough council: Messrs. M. H. Oram, F. Jackson, E. V. West, A. J. Graham, M. A. Eliott, H. J. Carton (present members), J. T. Fahey, R, V. M'Glone, R, Edwards, F. W. Klein, F. W. Hubbard, J. G. Radford, J. A. M'Leavey, W. L. Fitzherbert, J. Hodgens, and H. Burrows.
