PROTRACTED CRICKET
MATCH THAT TOOK FOUR MONTHS.
Addressing Rotarians to-day on matters Samoan, Colonel K. W. 'Tate made humorous reierenc« to the national game of the islanders, cricket. He said that in most cases there were as many, as thirty aside, and in the last game that, he saw there were as many as 110 on each side. There was a curious law in regard to cricket. No one was allowed to play on any other days except Saturdays and Wednesdays, and players were to see to it that they were able to get back home on the night of the match. The incident leading up "to the passing of this la<w was rather amusing. Two tribes decided to play a challenge match, each side consisting of 400 men. Th» match took four months to play, and the home team, which had to do the entertaining, was eaten out of house and home. The match was for 100 kegs of beef, but so great were the demands on food during the match that neither sidi was in a position to pay the staEe at the conclusion.
