AN OPEN LETTER

The following letter has been Bent by Mr. Alexander Macintosh to - Mr. Len M'Kenzie, a candidate for the Mayoralty:— "Dear Mr. M'Kenzie, —Referring to my conversation with you by telephone yesterday evening, I find by this morning s paper that it is necessary to make one more correction. In your address delivered at Island Bay last night, you state that the Rev. James Peterson and Air. John Kirkclaldie called on you "at the request of a member of Mr. Wright's committee." There is an entire misapprehension on this point. To be quite candid, the visit of the two gentlemen named resulted from a conversation with me, when it was suggested they should see you. Both expressed a wish, as very old friends of your late father, to meet you, and stated their intention of calling. I hardly need, say that I am not a memGer'oT Bfiv Wri'ght's-cbmmittee, although, possibly, such a conclusion may 'have been erroneously arrived at. The only part I have taken in connection with the civic contests has been simply that of an ordinary citizen and ratepayer, anxious to prevent what, if there is no subordination of personal considerations, may result in a betrayal of the interests of Wellington.
