FRONTIER OUTRAGE
OFFICER'S WIFE MURDERED
NATIVES ABDUCT A DAUGHTER,
(DKUD PRBSB ASSOCIATION.—COmiOBT.) (AUSTRALIAN . NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Received .17th April, noon.) DELHI, 16th April. An abominable outrage occurred on Friday night at Kahat, in the Northwest Province, when raiders entered the bungalow of Major Ellis, Border Regiment, who is on the staff of the Kohat district. Major Ellis was away when raiders cut his wife's throat with daggers and carried his fifteen-year-old daughter into captivity, despite the fact that an officer was sleeping in the bungalow as a precautionary measure. Military patrols dashed in all directions without success, and the. whole countryside turned out in pursuit, but the outlaws got clean, away.
Suspicion rests on certain Afridis who were implicated in a similar outrage two years ago, when Colonel and Mi's. Foulkes were murdered. Recently there was a theft of rifles at Kohat, and it is believed that the murder was in revenge for a subsequent raid and that Miss Ellis is a hostage for arrested outlaws.
