THE CANADIAN SEIGNEUR. The Canadian Government steamer Canadian Seigneur arrived at Auckland from Halifax liroct on Friday. The vessel sailed from Halifax on'ihc 2nd March, end on 11th March a lire broke out in the vessel's starboard bunker. The fire was kept under by tlie vessel's Sre appliances until the steamer arrived at Colon the following day. At Colon gangs of men discharged the coal from the bunker and stacked it on deck, water being freely pumped into the coal as it was discharged from the bunker. By being stacked on deck a further outbreak was prevented, and the coal was later shifted to the stokehold, as it was needed for fuel in the Pacific. No damage was done. The Seigneur cleared Panama on the 13th Slarcli, and experienced fine weather until Good Friday, when stormy -weather vras encountered. For twelve days the vessel steamed against a succession of westerly gales, accompanied by a rough sea. Ths decks were repeatedly flooded, and the vessel's speed was retarded considerably. On Tuesday the weather began to moderate, and better speed was rna.le to port. The Canadian Seigneur is the first' steamer of the Canadian Xine to coma direct to Auckland. The Canadian Sdgneur completes dischargo in Australia, The vessel will afterwards return to New Zealand to load for New York, Boston, and Halifax.
