■'. SEASON OPENED.
There was a large gathering of Harriet supporters at Lyall Bay on Saturday, when the season waß officially opened by the Mayor (Mr. R. A. Wright, M.P.). In the course of his remarks, Mr. Wright stressed the value of harrier running as a recreation for the young manhood of the city, and assured the runners of the support of the City Council. He then declared the season opened, and dispatched the runners, some 140, on (jheir journey. The course led along the beach in an easterly direction to the fishermen's huts, then along the road, skirting the golf links to the golf house, where a turn was made through Freyberg street. A scratch run-in was held over the last 600 yards, and resulted in a win for C. Howe (Scottish) with G. W. Davies (Olympic) 2, W Watson (Wellington) 3, and T. Wilson (Olympic) 4. The run was ably conducted by N. W. Craig (Hutt Valley) as captain, with N. R. Smellie as whipperin. Wellington and Olympic Clubs provided the pace-makers, and Scottish laid the trail.
