BERHAMPORE v. SELWYN.
Berhampore and Selwyn senior fifteens met on No. 2 ground at the Park at 2 p.m. The game attracted little attention, as the interest centred principally on the play on the adjoining ground. The teams did not give an interesting exhibition of football. The teams turned out as follow: — Berhampore.—Walters . (full - back), Hickling, Howard, and Arthur (threequarters). Lang and Matheeon (fiveeighths), Charles (half), Pope, Mason, Brown, Whiterod, Malm, Duncan, M'Artnoy, and Watson (forwards). Selwyn.—-Malm- (full-back), Chadwick, Wogan, and Reeves (three-quarters), M'Brierty, and M'Quade (five-eightho), East-gate (half), Rose, O'Connor, Desmond, Bramley, Batchelor, ■ M'Donald, Whittington, and James (forwards). Selwyn entered their opponents' twenty-five after the kick off, but were soon placed on the defensive in their own territory, where the blue forwards got into action. For some minutes the line was threatened, and on one occasion Selwyn had to force down. The greens got away in a long cross-field movement, which collapsed near the corner. . Berhampore returned to the attack, and though there were openings enough their efforts broke down through loose combination. Howard had a good opportunity to score close "on the line, and surprised by kicking in-field, where' the ball was snapped up and the pressure relieved. Two unsuccessful pots from the field were essayed, and halftime came without score.
Berhampove wore again the aggressors when they changed, over to play against the sun. Following up a. kick which took the ball over the line" jtist outside tho posts, Chadwick had hard luck by being beaten for a try by the ball being practically kicked from between his fingers. A penalty kick awarded to the greens from the twenty-five failed to rise, and shortly afterwards a potted gonl by Walters opened the score for the bliies. The ensuing play opened the way for the first try, scored in a spectacular run by Brown, who ran in between the posts. Lang's kick failed. Berhampore 7, Seiwyn 0. A similar movement in; the corner two minutes later resulted in the bnll being kicked out of touch. After a.period of uninteresting play (hat was marked by little incident, JVT.ii.liii got over in a rough und tumble. Watsons
kick was unsuccessful, and the end came without further score. Mr. R. E. J. Martin was referee. i I ] ! i r i \ ! ! ' ! ' 1 1 1 < 1 i ( i j ( j t ( ; £ a t
