CREDIT BALANCE OF £19,044

A SATISFACTORY POSITION.

For the financial year, which closed on 31st March last, the Corporation tramways produced a net surplus of £19,044, a decrease of £3363 upon the .credit that resulted from, the operations of the department in 1921-22. A satisfactory surplus is also revealed in the power-supply balance-sheet; tha credit balance amounts to £8542, as compared with £2382 for the previous financial year. The electric lighting department shows a surplus .of £12,830, slightly more than in 1921-22.

The detailed figuree are ac follow :—

Commenting on the tramways finances Ho-day, the Mayor (Mr. R. A.'Wright, S.M.P.) said that the decline in the credit 'balance as compared with last year was explained by the fact that certain reductions had been made in the price of (concession tickets. It was satisfactory [to note that working expenses were still j falling. On the whole, he regarded the j year's return as very gratifying.
