Superintendent J. J. Cassels, of Christchurch, is in Wellington.
Mr. D. F. Wilber, Consul-General for the United States, will leave New Zealand by the Marama on 20th April, and will catob, the Niagara, which leaves Sydney for San Francisco on 3rd May. .
Mr. C. B. Walker, one timg manager of the Remington and Roneo Co., was recently admitted a solicitor of the. Supreme Court by his Honour Sir Robert Stout, on. the motion of Mr. H. E. Anderson.
A Press Association message reports that Mr. T. R.. Mackay, who for the past five years has been chief auctioneer in Timaiu for the Nationals-Mort-gage and Agency Company, has been appointed Timaru manager in succession to Mr. R. S. Forsyth, who is going to London as manager for the Meat Producers' Board.
A presentation was made to Mr. Archie Wilson, of the Waterworks Department of. the City Council, yesterday afternoon on the occasion of his voluntary retirement after 44 years' service. Mr. George Tinney, foreman, in making the presentation, which consisted of a Morns chair and a case of pipes, referred to the long and faithful service rendered to the council by Mr. Wilson. Mr. Wilson suitably returned thanks.
Dr. Macdonald Wilson, medical superintendent of the Wellington Hospital, will .leave on a visit to America next month to investigate the latest methods in hospital administration and equipment in the United States and Canada, with a view of incorporating them in the new hospital buildings to be erected in Wellington. Dr. Wilson will be absent for at least four months, his visit being, the outcome of a resolution passed at the last meeting of the Hospital Board.
A record of fifty years' service as commercial traveller, and sixty years of employment by one firm stands to the credit of Mr. E. W. Gibbs, who has just retired" from the staff of Messrs. E. W. Mills and 'Co. He waß entertained last evening at the Commercial Travellers' Club, where he received a presentation and iistened to many expressions of goodwill and appreciation. Mr. Gibbs, who is in his seventy-third year, has for half a. century "worked the ground" in Marlborough, Nelson, Christchurch, Dunedin, Wellington, Napier, Wanganui, and Auckland.
