DAVIS CUP AND ZONE SYSTEM

Entries for the 1923 Davis Cup competition closed on 15th March, and the draws under the two-zone system which will prevail this year for the first time were made the following day by the United States Lawn Tennis Association, states a Reuter message to the "Mancheater Guardian." Several changes of importance appear in the revised Davis Cup regulations adopted at the international conference held in London last January. Special attention has been paid to. the fact that with the development of the game in all parts of the world the question of travel and competition between widely separated nations is one involving large expenditures. The two-zone system will lessen'this expense and-obviate as. far as possible the necessity .of defaults. Challenging nations will specify whether they desire to compete in the American or European zone; the cup-holding nation will make two draws, and zone winners will meet fol the. right, to challenge for the trophy.
