Works, replying to an inquiry by . the Westland Chamber of Commerce, states that he. is unable to arrange for the early transport of timber, etc., through Otira tunnel, owing to the contractors requiring the uninterrupted H?e of the tunnel in connection with the completing of their work. While the Railway Department I has a-large amount of gear to be taken through, in addition to a quantity ?f signal equipment to be erected in the tunnel. The carriage of timber, etc., will be commenced as soon as he .can arrange without delaying the completion of .the tunnel and the attendant works.
