THE KAIKOUBA'S OARGO,

- The discharge of the damaged cargo and the survey of the hull of the New Zealand Shipping Company's liner Kalkoura in. the victoty of the ipot whsro the fire Wfevmi will probably oocnpy the remainder of the week (»t*tea the "Herald,") The Urge.nvm. ber ot bales of wool .that are badly burned

shows that the fire had obtained an extensive hold, and that Rood work was-'done by the crew at sen in Keeping the outbreak unUer control. They practically had extinguished it by the time the vessel reached Auckland. Nearly all the bales of woo! that were stowed in the middle of the hatchway ace badly burned. Those stowed in the wings and at each end of the hold seemed to have suffered th«. least. It will be somo time before the real extent of the damage is known. As tlie damaged cargo is being discharged the dry bales are being etpwed in tlie sheds. The badly burnt bales are being sent to various fellmonyers, where tbo wool will be reconditioned. After the damaged cargo has been discharged, the Kalkoura will probably go to Opua to load a consignment of meat, and then return to Auckland to. complete loading.
