10 TIK IKIOR; ''■'■" Sir,—ln your issue of 9th inst., there appeared an article on the "Cost of Housing" by Me F. E. Greenish; but," as it contained a statement that is quit* contrary to fact, we should like to remove any false impression it might have created in the minds of your readers. _ Mr. Greenish gives nine causes responsible for the high cost of building tpday, and in the fourth states:- "Tho hardware merchants have not yet'reduced their prices, evidently being too overstocked with goods purchased at jjeak prices." For your information, we might state that every article of hardware used in building construction has beeij reduced from time to time to conform, with present-day costs (or replacement' values), and that practically all the overstock lines bought at peak prices have* been sold long ago. Should Mr.- Greenish wish to verify our statement regarding prices, we would refer, him to the Government Statistician, to whom current prices of leading lines of hardware are posted every month, and which in---I formation, we understand, is later issued in book form by the Government.—Wr are, etc., E.
