WAHINE'S FIREMEN

DENY THAT TfIEY WERE SEASICK. (DT TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) CHRISTCHURCH, 12th April. "A Wahine writes as follows to to-nigrTt's "Star" :—"With regard to a statement made on 10th April that the slow passage of the ferry steamer Wahine was partly due to seasickness among firemen who joined the vessel during the recent strike, I beg to state a few home truths on behalf of the firemen concerned in this, matter. In the first place, there are very few firemen on the vessel at present who joined during, the so-called strike. Most of the men now joining the vessel are deepsea firemen of many years' experience, and have given stern proof that they are quite capable of managing a small steamer like the Wahine. We: also "absolutely deny that even one fireman was seasick during tho voyage mentioned. We therefore challenge you to prove ,the statement, and if proof is forthcoming we firemen on the Waliine will give a donation of £50 to the Wellington Hospital."
