LANSING-ISHII AGREEMENT

The Privy Council has ratified the abrogation of the Lansing-Ishii agreement. An earlier cable stated :—The Lans-ing-Ishii agreement, whereby the United States in 1917 recognised Japan's special interests in China, has been cancelled by mutual agreement between the Washington and Tokio Governments. Diplomatic negotiations have resulted in a new understanding, basedprimarily on the provisions of the Nine Power Agreement reached by the Washington Conference.
