CRAZE FOR EXAMINATIONS
AUSTRALIAN TEACHERS CON.
DEMN SYSTEM.
(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COMRMIT.) (Received sth April, noon.).
SYDNEY, This. Day. At the Teachers' annual inter-State Conference a paper'was read on the examination system. The writer complained of a craze for examinations run wild. Primary schools, he said, were being run for the purpose of preparing pupils to pass examinations for entrance into secondary schools, which ignored ■ the fact that, a large majority of the pupils would not reach such institutions.
The paper urged' the. adoption of a system which would test the general ability, common-sense, and fitness of the student.
Resolutions condemning the present system and cramming for examinations were adopted.
