THE PRICE OF SUGAR
HAS THE' GOVERNMENT BROKEN FAITH?
(»I mBORAPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION.) DUNEDIN, This Day. Managers of distributing firms consider the Government has broken faith with business people by increasing the price of sugar and continuing control of distribution after June. One merchant stated, regarding importations of Java sugar, that some time ago it was suggested by local importers that, if the Government gave a guarantee that jio duty would be imposed on Javan .sugar, they could land parcels at a lower price than the Sugar Company were charging New Zealand storekeepers, but the Government persistently stated that the ' quality of Java sugar was unsuitable. The general opinion of traders is that the sooner the Government drops control the better.
