BRITISH AND FOREIGN SAILORS' SOCIETY.
The British, and Foreign Sailors' Society.. Wellington Branch, during Easter, entertained the sailors from the ships in port. On Sunday between 40 and SO men were entertained at tea in St. George's Building, after whioh a bright service waa conducted by Major Gray, of the Salvation Army. On Easter Monday over 100 men from the Port Caroline, Corinthic, Westmeath, and Earanga were taken by mo.tor for- a picnic to Moonshine Valley, where races, games, and tw.o football matches were indulged in. Prizes were provided by the' society; and were presented by Mr. H. Griffiths, Chief Engineer of the Port Caroline,' with whom were associated Messrs. A. Addj, M. R. Potter, G. Drov, G. Bell,, F. Fulliok, and Q. Linldater. 'Following are the results of athletic events: 100 yds race, T. Biggins (Port Caroline); 3-letrged race, G. Skelton and R. Fluoker (Port. Caroline);. Wheelbarrow race, P. Corkill and G. Kirby (Port Caroline); relay race,' F. Eullick (Port Caroline); itug'-of-war, Port Caroline; donkey race, M. Ramsay and boy M'Callura. The football resulted in men from the Port Caroline scoring 3 goals to the Raranga's 2, and in the afternoon the Port Caroline scored 5 goals to the Corinthic , and Weatmeath's 0. In the evening the men were entertained in the rooms until 10.30 p.m. The society's thanks are due to the ladies, together with their fyiends, for the hard work done in preparing for • the picnic, and also to the men of the Corinthic for the willing way they came forward and helped with the preparations. On Saturday afternoon a. drive was to have taken place with tea at Island Bay, but owing to the inclement weather, this had to be postponed.
