CARNIVAL AT EVANS BAY

SOME INTERESTING EVENTS,

I Favoured by ideal weather conditions, I the Evans Bay Swimming Club held its ; annual carnival at Evans Bay on Satl urday afternoon, when some very interesting races were witnessed by a large gathering of enthusiasts. All events were keenly contested, and in the majority of cases every competitor "finished." An unusually fast time was registered in the boys' race, the fifty yards course being swum by Calder in 37 seconds, and in the girls' race Miss N. Scott, after a bad start, won comfortably in 43 seconds. J. Hill and M. Griffen, the two men to take the board in the 100 yards club championship, provided a good race. Both tried to secure the lead over the first lap. Hill, turning in fine style, gained an advantage of about j three yards, and held it to the finish, j Miss E. Wells won the women's champoinship, with Miss H. Murrell a good second. C. Boss won the 50 yards maiden -race rather easily in 34 seconds.
