HEROIC RESCUERS
STORY OF THE LOST HEJMDAL.

LONDON, 4th March,
The trawler Vidette landed at Grimsby five survivors from the collier Hejmdal, which sunk during the voyage from Swansea to Odense The Hejmdal was swept from end to end by gigantic waves off Spurn Head. The ship s cook was washed overboard, and the cargo shifted and produced a dangerous list. The captain and crew had to lash themselves to the masts and pumps. They sent out distress signals. A youth of seventeen years was fatally crushed between the vessels during rescue operations, which were carried out in mountainous seas.
