"GET READY FOR IT"
MR HOLLAND AND NEXT ELECTION. CHRISTCHURCH, 26th Feb. Mr. H. E. Holland, M.P , addressed a very largely attended public meeting to-night on the short session of 1923. Speaking on the linee of his recent Dunedin speech, he said that in future there must be a Labour candidate put up for each constituency. '"While it is not pmbable. there may be another election next year," said Mr. Holland. "It is possible, and our businesss is to net- ready for it." Unfortunately the Labour Party had usually left its organisation for elections too late, but lie felt sure Labour would have a big; say in the next Chrietchurch North election. Referring to a newspaper criticism of the Labour Party. Mr. Holland urged workers to get together and set_ up Labour dailies throughout New Zealand. Mr. Holland asserted that means were now being devised of altering the electoral system with a view to preventing the Labour Party coming into power; therefore he warned his hearers to be careful that no system was foisted on the Dominion by which people would be politically swindled. All that the Labour Party had to fear were those of the working class that did not think for themselves, but let the daily Press do their thinking for them. It was inevitable that Labour would eventually win. By its supporters petting together they could hasten the day. Replying to a question, Mr. Holland said while he was personally in favour of the Labour Party contesting Tauransra. that was u matter that was left to the party in the district to decide.
Mr. Holland was accorded a vote of thanks, and the following motion was carried: "That this meeting heartily supports the recent action of the Parliamentary Labour Party in the position it took up at tiie short session."
