FINE DISPLAY OF ANIMALS

THE PRINCIPAL WINNERS.

The seventeenth Annual Show of the Horowhenua A. and P. Association was opened on the Levin Racecourse yesterday A dull, threatening morning developed into a beautiful day; consequently there was a very good attendance for a first day's show.

The racecourse proves an ideal showground, and the arrangements made by the officials were excellent. There was a fine display of horses, Jersey cattle, and sheep. The Central Development Farm exhibited some beautiful Friesian cattle, and was awarded no less than nme first prizes. Very keen interest was taken in the Jersey cattle classes. Levin district contains some of the best dairy cattle in the Dominion, and there is always a good deal of rivalry among the exhibitors. R. L. Horn was the most successful, and H. J. -Lancaster (Glen Oroua). and J. Nicholson (Manakau) each scored first awards. • A big attendance for People's Day is anticipated, • The main results are.: coMPETinoira. Apple Race on Horseback.—T,' Pratt. AYRSHIRE CATTLE. • The entries in the Ayrshire classes were not at all numerous, although some of the finest animals in the Dominion were exhibited, Messrs. Webb Brothers, of Koputaroa, secured . the male championship and several firsts and seconds, while the old veteran Ayrshire, breeder, T. H, Colpman, of Waikanae, easily won the female championship, besides getting seven first and three second tickets. HORSES.
