MURIHIKU'S MISTAKE
(»T TILBOIUPH.— SPECIAL TO THI TOST.)
AUCKLAND 1, This Day.
Features of the race were the performances of Murihiku and Winifred. Early in the race Murihiku assumed the lead. The light weather suits this boat and on her performance in the first round she seemed a likely winner. On the second round, however, , when holding a good position, she stood across the tide falling back to fourth place. Meanwhile .Linnet, which was holding fourth place, closed up to Winifred, but as she was a long way to leeward it was generally anticipated that Winifred would cross the line first. Within the last minute, however, both Winifred and Linnet failed to weather the mark boat. Linnst was the first to break tacks, and. on coming round a sain she crossed Winifred. Neither boat, however, fetched the mark, and both went round ajtain. Linnet had now a slight advantage over Winifred, and passed the mark boat nine seconds ahead of Winifred. Eynin was never prominent and finished last.
