SEMI-FINALS AT AUCKLAND.

AUCKLAND, 30th January.

The representative tennis match, New South Wales v. Auckland ladies, 1 concluded to-day, the Visitors' winning all their matches.

Miss Knight made a? great fight against Miss Lloyd, who led 5-2 in the first set, but the Aucklander evened. Miss Lloyd won the next two games and the set, 7-5. In the second set Miss Knight forged ahead after being three all, ancTwon, 6-3. The third set saw Miss Knight leading 3-1, and then 4-2, but the Australian's steadiness and accuracy alloyed her to win the next four games and the set, 6-4.

An uphill struggle by Mrs. Scott-Wat-son against Miss Gray also proved interesting. Four all, five all, six all were called in the first set, and then the vistor annexed two games and the set, 8-6. The second set was long drawn out. Miss Gray led 5-2, but, amid excitement, Mrs. Scott-Watson drew level. Six all and then seven all were called, and the local player won the' set, S;7. In the deciding set Mrs.- Scott-Watson led 4-3, and 40 love, Miss Gray then pulling up and taking the set, 6-4.

Mrs. Lascelles defeated Mrs. HodgeSj 6-2, 6-4.

Mise Lance defeated Miss Macfarlane,-6-1, 6-2. This game was disappointing, Miss Macfarlane failing to make any impression on the visiting champion. The doubles resulted as follow:—■ Misses Lance and Lloyd beat Miss Macfarlane and Mrs. Scott-Watson, 7-5, 6-3; Mrs. Lascelles and Miss Gray beat\Mrs. Hodges and Miss Knight,, 6-3, 6-0. Superior combination was the deciding factor in both matches.

The semi-finals of the Auckland 'provincial championships resulted as follow:— ■ ,

Men's Singles.—Sims beat Page, 6-2, 6-0, 6-4; Bartleet beat Robson, 9-7, 6-1, 7-5. .
