The first innings of the combined .Nelson', Marlborough, and West Coast elevenin the match against the M.C.C. team closed for 119. The Englishmen at the close of the day's play had seven wickets down for 202. Saxon's innings was a good all-round display. Chapman, Lowry, add Wilkinson gave free exhi- v bitions. The fielding of the Englishmen was brilliant, and that, of the local team good. At one stage of. the game Nelson had lost five wickets for 43, but the Saxon-Ketnnitz partnership added 30. England lost the first wicket for 9 and the second for 35, but the third put on a century before being dissolved. Following are the scores:—

The detailed scores given do not tally with the.' totals. In the first place, the individual scores of the combined team are 16 short of the total of 119 credited to it—probably the extras have been omitted;. In the introduction the M'.C.O. is said to have, lost seven wickets for 202, but in the detailed scores only six wickets are shown to have fallen.

B. Hill-Wood and .S!atar' are MPirileis of the party travelling with the team.
