THE THIRD TEST

SNEDDEN WILL NOT PLAY

|An alteration in the New Zealand team for the third Test with the M.C.C. has been necessitated by the announcement that N. C. Snedden (Auckland)'has decided not to play in the match. The advice which has come to hand also states that Snedden has resigned his position as a selector. This development, following upon the adverse criticism of Biice's omission from the team, rather complicates matters for the other two selectors (MessrS. K. H. Tucker, Wellington, and A. Martin, Otago). There is a possibility, however, that they may agree upon the player to fill the vacancy without the New Zealand Council taking action with regard to the appointment- of another selector. A twelfth man was chosen for the New Zealand third Test team, Hiddleston (Wellington) filling the position, and it would naturally follow that he would go into the team in place of Snedden. Hiddleston, however, has intimated that h» could not act as twelfth man. It is now likely that Brice's claims for inclusion in the team will receive more favourable,, consideration. Two players are required to .complete the side, one to act as twelfth man, and for the emergency place Dempster has a strong claim. Snedden captained New Zealand in the first and second Test matches. His batting average for four completed innings was 18.25, and his bowling average was 28,66. ■
