His Excellency the Governor-General Viscount. Jellicoe arriVed by. the Main Trunk express from Auckland to-day for the purpose of..attending a meeting of the Executive Council. He will leave to-morrow for Takapau, where ' Lady Jellicoe has entered into residence, for two months. His Excellency will return to Wellington for the opening of Parliament. :

On Saturday last Lord Jellicoe participated in the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron races at Auckland, sailing the Victory in the race, for the Macky j Memorial trophy, and on Monday sailed the Iron Duke in the two races for the one-design class at the Auckland Anniversary Regatta. Yesterday afternoon at Auckland he witnessed the first of the races for the Sanders Cup. . '

Mr. T. M. Wilford returned to Wellington to-day from Christchurch, where he has been on a business visit.

The Yen. Archdeacon Williams and Mr. J. C. Andersen were elected to fellowship of. the New Zealand Institute yesterday.

Dr. R. Campbell Begg will leaveby the Port Darwin to-morrow afternoon on an eight months' visit to England and the Continent; He will be accompanied by Mrs. Begg. „,'..'.,

Mr.-R. Darroch, secretary of the, Wellington branch-of 'he Navy League, who has been spending six weeks' holiday in/ the Wairarapa, returned to Wellington to-day. . ■ ■ ' ■ / .

Mr; George Swarm, solicitor, formerly a well-known resident of Christchurch, died suddenly of heart failure at Auckland last week. He was riding in a tramcay' when he collapsed. Mr; Swarm was born at York, and came to New Zealand in 1874. 1 He was admitted as a barrister and solicitor in 1882, and practised in Christchurch for many ye,ars. He served as a member of the Christchurch City Council and the Avon Road Board, and as chairman of the Richmond Domain Board. As a Freemason he attained some distinction. In 1894 he was Worshipful Master of Lodge Canterbury, and he also held the offices of P.Z. of the Prince of Wales Royal Arch Chapter and District Grand Registrar for Canterbury under the English Constitution. For several years prior to his death he lived in Auckland.

Occasion was taken on board the French cruiser Jules Mich'elet yesterday afternoon by Rear-Admiral Gflly to assemble his officers and meet Mr. J. Hislop, Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs, and present him with an autographed etching of the-admiral, in heavy silver frame. The memento bore on a brass plate the inscription: " Rear-Admiral Gilly and the Commander, Officers, and Men of the Cruiser Jules Michelet to Mr. J. Hislop, Under-Secretary for Internal Affairs, New Zealand, 16th to 31st. January, 1923." The present was given as, a, memento of My. Hislop's connection with the. officers and crew of the ship since it , arrived in New Zealand. In replying, Mr. Hislop expressed his delight at receiving the token, which he accepted as a representative of the Government during the visit.

News, of the death of Mr. G. F. M'Girr, which occurred at Te Aroha last evening, will be received with regret by a wide circle of friends in Wellington. The late Mr. M'Girr, who was a brother of Mr. W. P. M'Girr (of Seatonn) and Mrs. I. ,E. Wiren (of Lyall Bay), was born in Wellington forty-five years ago. He was educated at the Mt. Cook School and later in life he was engaged as a reporter to a Parliamentary committee. In Wellington he was also associated with Mr. A. E. Briggsin business. During the past seventeen years he had held the position of - Tourist agent at Te Aroha. For many years he had not enjoyed the best of health, but was not prevented from carrying out hi* work, until he became very ill recently.' He leaves a widow, formerly*' Miss Elsa Fredga, who came out from Sweden as masseuse to tlte New Zealand Tourist Department, taking up duty at Rotorua, and two children.
