FIRE ON MAKURA
BLAZE IN THE GALLEY.

AUCKLAND, This Day. ' A fire occurred shortly after 4 p.m. yesterday on the steamer Makura, berthed at the Queen's Wharf. The galley range is fed with oii fuel, which caught fire and filled rhe galley with flames. The outbreak was subdued in about ten minutes, but so fierce was the heat that ono of the iron bulkhead plates buckled. Some of the galley fittings were damaged. Tha flames were extinguished by chemical cKttngtmhevs and w»tM< {torn tha ship's how.
