SCOTTISH DANCING AND FRENCH

VISITORS.

The third day of the Eastbowne-Car-nival took place yesterday, .when ..the „ Wellington Scottish Society "and ' Pipe Band provided the day's amusement. Highland dancing was the central attraction. Owing to the high wind it was found necessary to hold the various' events in a large, marquee instead of in the open as was originally intended. All available accommodation was taken, during the course of the programme, and the various dancers were" greeted with applause as they concluded ' their*: coViL tribution to the general entertainment.

Owing to the lack of entries-no'boxing touts have been held during the period of the carnival. .. :,.

Pegs were pulled, out of the ground as though they were only in an inch or two, instead of a couple of feet. The east end collapsed' and a large amount of crockery was smashed but a hig team of French, sailors" took in the situation and rendered' "excellent service, saving the big "canvas structure from farther damage.

Included amongst-the-"visitors 'yesterday to the carnival were: many people who were picnicking at Day's Bay, as well as a large band of seamen from the Jules Micheletl. •..'.-.

In the evening cabaret dancing was indulged in, and a variety concert was held. The Eastbourne Rugby Football Club are holding sports to-day, and there ie a fair attendance of spectators and per- / formers. The events for the day include basket, ball competitions for boys and girls, club swinging, kicking, a football, and other interesting items. On Friday the juvenile section. .V#« the '' •amateur, trial sports will'be held under the management of the East Harbour Athletic Cinb, a lengthy and interesting programme being provided. EXCURSION FARES. To assist pawnts and to enable «wyone to have an opportunity to ivitne'ss the carnival before it closes on Saturday, the ferry management have decided to ..charge special carnival rates I*om to-morrow until the end of' the '- cnrnrval. These special excursion fares will enable parents and other adults to travel on the 10.15 a.m. and ,the 7.15 p.m. boats at a charge of one shillint;, • children under twelve .years "traveffing- .'• free. On Saturday the special fare will apply to every boat leaving the- -city ■wharf. The amounts for the last "three days of the carnival are being specially ■prepared, and each day will produce ,«ome new attraction in, the way of sport ;or entertainment.
