HOROWHENUA A. & P. SHOW
'Although the entries for the Levin.Show which opened this morning are particularly good, there is a decided falling-off in numbers as compared with, last year's fixture. There are, however, upwards of eight post entry competitions, whicti may easily swell the totals. The greatest falling-off is noticeable in the dairy and fat cattle classes, which are well below those of last year. Noticeable absentees are the Porirua Mental Hospital authorities, William Bevan (of Manakau) and J. G. and 0. J. Harkness (of Te Horo). It is satisfactory, however, to note that sheep have made a forward move from 84 at last Show to 116 this year, indicating that breeders are no longer confronted with the slump problem, in the sheep business at any rate. Both wool and mutton are in the ascendant, and the increased entry is a very true indication of this. The Show is decidedly strong in horses. Certainly one of the finest displays of riding and harness horses seen at any Show for years past is to be witnessed at Levin to-day. Trade exhibits are far more numerous than hitherto, and indicate to some extent that the Levin business people are alive to their district's interests. Side-shows are plentiful and are a strong source of' amusement to all and sundry,: There are big entries for all the post-entry events, mainly comprising competitions, but the greatest interest centres round the horse jumping events. The Assbciation raised the prize-money considerably, and consequently there are competitors fiom many distant parts of the North Island. A big attendance for people's day to-morrow is anticipated. The following, notices are published by arrangement:—
