PROGRESS AT AUCKLAND.
(HI TIHOIUM.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.)
AUCKLAND, 29th January. The Auckland tennis tournament was continued to-day tin fine weather. The New South Wales ladies proved their superiority over local players,', and the finals are confined to them. Miss; Gray defeated Miss Macfarlane, 6-3, 3-6,' 7-5. Miss Macfarlane led 5-2 in' the last set, but the steadiness of the visitor, carried the day. Miss Lance beat Mrs. Lascelles, 6-1, .6-2, and plays Miss Gray in the final.
Good combination enabled Misses Lance and Lloyd and Mrs. 'Laacelleg and Miss Gray to defeat their opponents in the ; ladies' doubles fairly easily. They will fight oat the final.
Sims, Page, Robson, and Bartleet are the semi-finalisls in the men's singles.
Turner and Wright, Griffiths and Brinsden, Ohlson and Fotheringham, Bartleet and Robson remain in the semifinals of the men's doubles.
