CONSTANTINOPLE, 29th Jan. Praying over his mother's grave on the eve. of his departure from Smyrna for Angora, in the presence of a great crowd, Kemal Pasha swore by his mother's soul to defend the country's newly won liberties. "I would rather join you in the grave," he said, "than allow Turkey's sovereignty' to be imperilled."
Some Turks locally deplore such incidents which are usually the, prelude to warlike operations, but the Anatolians declare that they will not wait any longer, and will refuse further parleys. This may be a blnff but the National Assembly, according to reliable sources, professes its determination to take the matter out of the hands of the delegates at Lausanne. The Turkish preparations on the Mosul border continue.
The Turks are spreading reports that millions of Egyptians,"lndians, and Afghans ate ready to fighti^ England.
