SALE OF LIQUOR

PALMEB.STON N., This Day. The reserved jui^ment of' Mr. Stout, S.M., was given ,in . the ■ Magistrate's Court to-day in the case of Walter Hall Webb, storekeeper,. Tokomaru, charged on six informations, with selling liquor without a license. Defendant, said the Magistrate, was in the habit of accepting orders for beer and stout, and obtaining the liquor from a brewer at Palmerston North. Defendant carted the liquor back making a charge per gallqn in addition to the usual price. The Magistrate held that\this constituted a, sale in contravention of section 195 of the Licensing Act, there being ho.contract between the customers'and the brewery, and the latter looking to the defendant for payment. Defendant was convicted on all charges, and fined, at counsel's request on one, £7 and costs. The others were adjourned, mention being made of an appeal.
