CITY COUNCIL STAFF PICNIC
The annual picnic of the City Council staff was held at Williams Park, Day's Bay, yesterday. A mod; enjoyable day was spent by some 200 persons, including- the wives and families of many of ths Corporation employees. An excellent programme, of sports and games had been arranged by various committees, and' everything went off in a businesslike manner, reflecting credit both upon the members of the committees and upon the picnic secretary, Mr. Youmans. Among those present in the afternoon were the Mayor and Mayoress (Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Wright), the City Engineer (Mr. W. H. • Morton) and Mrs. Morton, the. Acting-Town Clerk (Mr. R.^ait) and Mrs. Tait, Councillors B. G. H. Burn, C. H. Chapman, P. Fraser, M.P., and A. Parton, and other City Council officials.

Cigarette race: Smith and partner, 1; Swinburne and partner, 2. Ladies' egg-and-spoon race: Miss D. Tait, 1; Miss Hoy, 2; Miss Hyde, 3. Men's race (staff), 440 yards: Hobbs, 1; Youmans,. 2; Russell, 3. Thread-the-needlo race: Nicholls and Miss Peters, 1; Aston and Miss Hyde, 2. Men's swimming race, 75 yards: D: Scott, 1; H. Tait, 2. Ladies' swimming race: Miss Hyde, .1; Mrs. Hastwell, 2. Th» tug-of-war was won by the tramways team, skipped by Mr. Petersea. .Tennis tourname*t: Ladies' doubles—Won by Miss Hyde and Miss Turner; gents" doubles— won by Swinburne and Nicholls'. Re,lay race, won by milk department.
The day's outing was brought to a close with an enjoyable dance in the pavilion in the evening.
