The. CanterburyiOtago match was resumed on a heavy wicket, in fine weath-
er. The visitors, who were six for 270, continued with M'Ewen and Sandham. The latter hit an off ball from M'Beath to Alloo at cover. 273-W7—4. Read was run out in attempting a single. 280—8—7. Boon failed to get on to one of M'Beath's deliveries, and skied it to M'Callum. 284—9—1. Cunningham was bowled for 0 by Dickinson, and the innings closed for 284. M'Ewen was not out 3, and extras 6. M'Beath took three wickets for 97 runs, Dickinson four for 48, and Conradi one for 29. A. W. Allpo and Duncan opened to Read and Cunningham. Duncan got Read twice to leg for 4, and then Alloo was out, playing Cunningham on to his foot, whence the ball shot up to Talbot. 15—1—1. Duncan was clean bowled by an off break from Read. 17—2-rrl4. Immediately afterwards Read beat M Mullan with a nice leg break. 18—3—2. Shepherd and Knight formed the next partnership, and at 26 Sandman relieved Read. Then Shepherd crouched to cut one coming back, and was caught at short slip. 45"—4— 10. Galland followed, but shortly was beaten all the way with one from Read. 55 —3—5. At the luncheon adjournment the score was five for 79.
