San Antonio (Texas) reports that Kirk, wood, though suffering from a sore throat, was well up in the first day's play, for the Texas open golf championship. With two others he tied for second place with; a score of 142. Hagen and Barnes tieaj for third with 143. Bill Melhorn is leading with 137. ' Later. At the end. of fifty-four holes Hagen was first with 208, and Melhorn second with''2ll. Kirkwood tied with Barnes for fourth place with 219. . Later. Hagen and Melhorn tied for first placs w\th 279 for 72 holes, and will play otf , the tie to-morrow. Kirkwood got third place with 290, winning a purse of SCO dollars.
