The "New York World's" Washington correspondent states that officials in .Washington, particularly members of Congress, are astonished at the cabled reports of Mr. Stanley Baldwin' 6 statements- on arrival, to the effect that the debt has become a political issue, and that senators controlling the situation did not understand finance. The officials state that they^ do not believe the correctness' of the reports, but, if true, the remarks ' are highly impolitic, and will further diminish the likelihood of an early settlement of the debt question.
