WASHINGTON ASTOUNDED
REMARKS HIGHLY IMPOLITIC.
NEW YORK, 28th January. The "New York World's" Washington correspondent states that officials in .Washington, particularly members of Congress, are astonished at the cabled reports of Mr. Stanley Baldwin' 6 statements- on arrival, to the effect that the debt has become a political issue, and that senators controlling the situation did not understand finance. The officials state that they^ do not believe the correctness' of the reports, but, if true, the remarks ' are highly impolitic, and will further diminish the likelihood of an early settlement of the debt question.
