OPERATIONS REVIEWED.

The annual meeting of the Wellington Civic League was held on Friday, Mr. G. Mitchell, president', occupied the chair. A letter was received from the Te_j Aro Advancement Association intimating Us intention to co-operate with the league and appointinj? Mr. Hornig as its ropresentative, also supporting the Wal-lace-John streets tramway extension. Mr. Hornig was added to the committee. A letter from Councillor M'Kenzie, chairman of, the Outlying Districts Committee, was received. In this it wa* asked that supuestions of requirements be sent into the council before the estimates for the year are framed. The letter was referred to the executive to deal with. The balance-sheet, showing a fair balance, was read 'and adopted. In his report, also adopted, * the secretary detailed the more important work of the league since its formation in August, 1921.- ' The president, in speaking to. the adoption of the report, said he had found the league the most harmonious body he had ever worked with. It had done good service in the short time it had existed. The city was on the eve of very Large developments and the beet organisation of citizens would be required during the years before us. He expressed great appreciation of the.work of the secretary and the activity shown by all members of the general council. On the election of ■ officers, Mr. Mitchell declined nomination for any office, giving as his reason that he might; be a candidate for the iMayoralty, and he thought it would be wrong to hold office in a body that would take part in the selection of candidates. Mr. P. C. Watt was elected president, and Messrs. Alexander Macintosh, G. A. Troup, W. Stu art Wilson, and Dr. Morgan vice-presi-i dents. Messrs. .P. D. Barcham, Bur- ' troyne-Thomas, J l. M. Bertram, T. Gray, F. W. Manton, and D. M'Laren were elected to the general council as repre"sent/tec: the individual members and central interests. Two members from each association were,also appointed to. the general council direct by the associations concerned. The secretary-treas-urer is appointed by the executive. Dr. Morgan spoke in very hir;h terms of the amount of work done by members of the league's council in connection with the Health Week "campaign. From what he had witnessed, he said, every one of them was on active service in the interest of a healthy community. In connection with the municipal elec-. tions it was, reported thi\t all associations taking an interest in affairs of local government on the basis of citizenship and independent of party, whether affiHatfid to the league' or not. were being invited to appoint two members each to th selection committee. There are ten associations affiliated and two others had decided to join. There were only two or 'three r.ot yet attached and it was hoped that associations would shortly be combined in this enterprise. A.hearty vote of thanks was accorded the secretary, Mr. D. M'Laren, and members spoke in- high praise of the service eiven by. him.
