N.S.W. COAL PITS CLOSED

SYDNEY, 10th January. With a view to reducing freights and fares, the Railway Commissioners are seeking to force down prices in new coal contracts; A number of coal owners, declining to supply at the reduced prices, are closing their pits. ' It is stated that a thousand miners will thus be rendered idle.
