INDIA TEA SALES.
(OMTBD PfiESS ASSOCIATION.—COPTRIGHT.) (Received 11th January, 11.15 a.m.) CALCUTTA, 10th January. The tea sales attracted 30,422 packages, making the season's total 601,267 packages. Average prices for commonest leaf were 11 annas and six pice to 12 annas and-six pice. Broken leaf, 11 annas and six pice to 12 annas. Ordinary common Pekoe Souchong, 13 annas and six pice to 1* annas. Lowest even leaf Pekoe realised 14 annas and six pice to 15 annas. Buyers are generally disappointed with the quality, which, except for a few invoices, was not so attractive, a large percentage of tea becoming mixed and stalky. The market is strong, though irregular. Teas with tip, both leaf and broken, sold at a considerable advance on previous rates. Leaf grades, free from stalk, were dearer, Medium Broken Pekoes maintained previous rates; small tea and Farmings were not keenly competed for, and dusts were weaker. • (The nominal value of the anna is Id; and i pice equal one anna.)
