BOWLING

QUEENSLANDERS' VISIT

THE FINAL DAY.

The Queensland bowling team concluded its stay in Wellington yesterday, and left for the. South in'the evening, when the members were given a great send-off on the Ferry Wharf. In the afternoon the visitors played matches at Thorndon and Victoria greens. At Thorndon the visitors were heartily welcomed by the acting-presi-dent, Colonel R. J. Collins, who expressed- the hope that their stay in the Dominion would, be a' most enjoyable one. Colonel Collins read the ■ following letter from the Minister :—"Dear Sir, —Though prevented by urgent' business from being present this afternoon, please allow me to join with the members of your club in the welcome which is being extended to the bowlers from Queensland.' I trust they will have' a good time^ in New Zealand and carry away with them pleasant niemories of this.country and its citizens'. The events of the last few years have brought' Australia ■ and . New Zealand ' more closely together than ever before, and I trust and believe • that as the years roll on, the citizens of both countries will realise that their interests are identical, and that in peace or war, what affects the one must affect the other. ' One thing is quite certain, both. Australians and New Zealanders are j willing to play the game, whatever form it may' take, and I am confident that in years to ;come they will play a very prominent part' in the history of the British Empire. I trust ,1 may have an opportunity of meeting our guests personally before they leave fov their homes."

Colonel Collins introduced Mr. James Macintosh as a former resident of Queensland. Mr. Macintosh said that, ho was/ forty years ago, a member of a green in Brisbane, which was unique in that it was then the only one in Brisbane, and with the exception of a private one in Maryborough, the-only green in the State. When, the Railway Commission' came, to Brisbane to report | upon' the' system, the) recommended the resuinp-. tion of the land on which the 'green 'was laid out, so the bowlers hadtd get.out and start another club. Mr. J. Johnson ■ (vice-president) replied on behalf of the visitors, stating . how much they were all enjoying themselves. At the Vir Aj, Club the Queenalanders' were received by the president (Mr. W. Mack), and a very pleasant time was spent. Reply to the welcome was extended by Mr. E. J.
