NEW UNION

CAUSES STIR ON WATERFRONT.

The report regarding the formation of a new union on the Wellington waterfront has, it is stated, caused a considerable stir nmonget the members of the existing union, a section of which regards with apprehension the creation of r.ji opposition organisation. : On Saturday, a meeting of members of the Wellington Waterside Workers Union was held in the X shed, and it is understood that the principal business of discussion was the prospects of 'a new union coming into being. Mr. J. Roberts, secretary of the New Zealand Waterside Workers' Federation, addressed the meeting, and strongly urged those present to remain loyal to the old union.

A good deal of feeling was shown by seme speakers at the meeting, and it is stated that uncomplimentary references were made to the promoters of the new union. ; 'In a statement to a "Post" reporter, a ■watersider who was present at the meeting, and who intends to join the new union, remarked that it was time that the men of the present union realised where they stood, and were made alive to the fact, that "political fakirs were riding on their backs."
