/DAVIS CUP ARRANGEMENTS.

The Chicago " Tribune's " JEonbliilu correspondent says that Veron Prentice, a member of the Tourney Committee of the United States Lawn Tennis Association, has announced that the- Davis Cup Committee is considering a new plan for the Davis Gup matches next year, by which the contestants would be divided into European and Pacific zones. Japan, Australasia, Philippines, Hawaii, and Western Hemisphere countries wctuld come under the Pacific zone, and the preliminary matches between the latter would be held at Honolulu. Japan and Australasia expressed their approval and willingness to play at' Honolulu. >
Mr. W. H. Morrah has again donated two racquets for the winners of a gombined handicap doubles competition, to be arranged by the Lyall Bay Club. L|st yeai''s matches for Mr. Morrah's trophies aroused great enthusiasm, and, if the ladder challenges are a criterion, there will,be no 'lack of rivalry this season.' ,
Mr. F. Laws has donated a trophy valued at £4 10s to ■- the Brougham Hill Club, with the object of encouraging players to practise. The trophy will go to the lady or man winning the greatest number of practice g^mes during the season. A\\ those who win trophies this season will not be eligible. The following players are at present leading for the trophy: L. France, B. Irvine, E. S. Molony, S. Roberts, C. Tucker, Miss Adams, Miss Elliott, Miss A. Howe, Miss M-erlo Howe, Mrs. Norris, Miss Stevens, Mrs. H. Somefville, and Mrs. Turnbull.
