CHARGES AGAINST MAURICE , TANGNEY.- ' '
> The trial of Maurice Tangney on a charge of attempting to ybtain the sum of £500'rrom Detective Tongue by means of a false .pretence was continued at the Supreme Court to-day. Mr. Justice Reed presided, Mr. P. S. K. Macassey appeared for' the Crown, and the prisoner conducted his own' defence. Mr. .Richard Williams was foreman of the jury. On the conclusion of the case for the ..Crown, Tangney went into the witnessbox to give evidence on his own behalf, and entered into a long statement, Teading from numerous sheets of foolscap. He had not concluded when the Court adjourned at one o'clock. It is understood that'Tangney intends calling eight or nine witnesses.
