Labour members in the Houge of< Representatives yesterday referred- : to v cases of immigrants who were Tout"., qf: .employment, and asked the Minister of Immigration (the Hon. W. Nfswoi'thy) if he woald find employment for'these men, as the Government had induced' the,m' to come -her©. Mr. W. E. Parry , (Auckland Central) said that a report of proceedings at the Wellington Hospital Board would convey the impression that there were no immigrants ..out,, of work. He had communications from unions.; that the contrary was the-ease. The Auckland Engineers' Union had, 3(J immigrants on its books, theChrotchurchunion i, and the Wellington union 5. Other skilled immigrants had been'com-^ . pelled to take labourers', wprk. 7 Wouldthe ; Minister communicate witft th-e trade unions and the Government Departments to find out how many recent'arrivals were out oi work? The Minister said that if Mr. Parry - would furnish him with the names and particulars of the cases he referred to he would have inquiries made, and wouldbe able to say. how many of them had1 been induced oy the Government to coma to Now Zealand. .
