THE LADIES' TOURNAMENT.

Tlie New Zealand Ladks' Hockey Association has decided to hold this year's tournament at Napier, and there will be few who will find fault with the decision. Napier is noted for its Ijne climate, and as a nd« tho- weather during the latter part of August and the beginning of September is ideal. Moreover, hockey is particularly strong in Napier aa far as tlin gentle sex, is concerned,, and tlio'se in chargo of ■ affaire,in the Hawknn Bay ciiptt^y. m»y _bj(, reliod p.a ts do. every ttipg

within their power to make the visit of the competing teams an enjoyable one. The first matches' of the tournament will be played on Saturday, 23rd August, and the tournament will extend over a week or so. The suggestion made at this week's. meeting of the New'1 Zealand Ladies' Hockey Association that the members of the winning team should each receive a gold medal, or, in the result of a draw, a silver medal, is a very excellent one, and it is to bo hoped that the council .will see its way clear to adopt it. A writer in the Southland.Times says:—"lt is unfortunate for Southland that the tournament is to bo held in the North Island as it will prevent any of the teams there from coming to Southland. The expense of sending a team from here to 'the tournament would be very great, and at its next meeting the association should go very fully into the matter before deciding what matches the Southland team will play at the end of the present season."
