JUNIOR COMPETITION.
The;" first round of the junior championship was'to be concluded to-day, and during the next three Saturdays the arrangement of the games will he such as to enable the four leading teams to meet each other in order to decide thu winners. The competition lias been keenly contested throughout, and tho final games should be particularly inter-esting.'-in view of the present positions of the; leading teams. 'JoliTisonville and BerhampoLe did not meet .in the first roundl-and iE the remaining matches fail to change the present, difference of points ■between Johnsonville and Petone, it will ho necessary for the game missed in thefirst round to be played. At the present time Petoue are a point ahead of Johnsonyille, and a win for the latter team over Berhnmpore would have reversed the positiojin. Although, JohnsonviUt: had the best of (he : with Hull at Athletic Park
last Saturday, they only managed to scrape home with a point to spare. Some of their backs will require to improve their tactics if they desire success in tho final round. A little less boring out to the touchlines will help the team. The forwards will also need to be doing their best. They were well held by Hutt. . R. Morgan, captain of the Johnsonville team, played in Taihape last year.. Although the youngest player on the side, he is one of the best. Some cf the senior teams could Ao with the Hutt full-back, Wright. He was the outstanding player in the junior game at the Park last Saturday. He saved his side on numerous occasions, and displayed a knowledge of the reqiiirements of a full-back that, impressed followers of senior football.
