Last week a fair' amount of business was done for prompt early August shipment at £6 ss, and for later in August at £6 10s. ' To-day potatoes were freely offered at £6 without much response. 'Quotations to fanners are about £5 per ton. With the cost of taking the potatoes out of tho pit 'this is scarcely as good a price as £4 six weeks 'ago, and the inclination,of growers is to wait for a further • improvement before opening up their pits. . / ] ..
There has been an active; week in snb' sidiary lines. Some linseedyhas been exported; to Sydney at from £14 to £14 10s to farmers. Cowgrass has livened up after a period of quietude, due, it is understood,'- to some inquiry. ] Several decent>parcels have been bought from farmers at Is per lb.. This was good stuff,' bat average quotations are 10j,d to lljd. Italian ryegrass is still medium. A fair parcel of machine dressed was sold .at Ss 6d, f.o.b. ■ Perennial ; ryegrass is also meeting with healthy ( inquiry.
